What is SHIP?
Safe Home Income Plans (SHIP) is a company supported by the leading providers of home income and equity release plans. It was launched in 1991 and is dedicated entirely to the protection of planholders and promotion of safe home income and equity release plans.
Members are obliged to observe the SHIP Code of Practice. Briefly, this means that members agree to the following:
- Provide a fair, simple and complete presentation of their plans, including costs, the tax situation, the effects on your plan if you move house or if the value changes and the effect of the transaction on the value of your estate on death
- All your legal work being performed by your own solicitor, who will look after your interests. Your solicitor will be required to sign a certificate to confirm that the scheme has been explained in full to you
- Guarantee that you can move to a suitable alternative property without financial penalty
- You having the right to remain in your own home for the rest of in your own home for the rest of your life.
